Reflection for Week 4 (Sept 21)

I have to wonder, with all these ways that we can communicate and stay in touch now, isn't there a point where it becomes too much? How do you prioritize the media that you read? There is no way to ever be 'finished' with Google reader. I think if I ever tried to thoroughly read every post in there I would be there for hours. But how do you decide what to pay attention to?

  1. This is really a great question, Betsy. For me, that's why a personal learning network is so important. I want to read things relevant and up to date in my field, but I can't possibly read it all. But by connecting with smart people through social networking sites, they let me know what they have read and found useful. For me it winnows down the vast Internet and gives me just some of the good stuff to read. The better your network, the better this system works.

Of course, I still can't read everything my PLN gives me. So I think of it like my water faucet. It's there when I need it, but I don't have to have it running continually. When I want a good idea or have a few minutes to think, read, and reflect, then I read a few things from my PLN. But I don't stress about all the things I miss when I am not reading.
